The game is available for purchase as either a solo purchase in digital format or physical format for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch that was released in Japan only. This game is also available as a dual purchase for both physical release or a digital bundle pack (excluding the Nintendo eShop) alongside Mega Man X Legacy Collection. In the case of the Switch dual release however, similar to the previous Legacy Collection releases, only Mega Man X Legacy Collection has a physical cartridge, while this game was given a code for a free digital download, similar to Mega Man Legacy Collection 2.

Street Fighter X Mega Man is a project developed by Zong Hui, combining Mega Man's gameplay with characters and settings from the Street Fighter series. Initially developed as a fan game by Hui, Capcom funded the project and provided creative direction and QA support. The game has been released as a free download on December 17, 2012.[1]

2001 saw the birth of a brand-new Mega Man series with the release of the first Mega Man Battle Network game.Set in a near-future world where advanced network technology has become the norm, the game captured the hearts of young children as they embarked on an adventure alongside the relatable protagonist. Complete with engaging game systems that combined elements of card battle and action games, the unique Data Action RPG went on to spawn a hit series.Accompanying comics and cartoons went even further to cement the legacy of the series.

Historically cartridge systems would see a general increase in cartridge size as the generation went on. Does anyone know if that happened with the DS or 3DS? By then companies weren't bragging about meg size (100 MEG SHOCK!!) and the DS systems didn't have to deal with ports from disc based systems enough to make it an issue like it was with the N64 so I don't know if that happened or if it was just one size all throughout.Clearly this has become an issue again. We're still getting the games because the digital downloads makes it still viable with a smaller cart but I wonder if there is a possibility of bigger carts being possible in the future. Though will publishers even care if they can just go for the smallest and thus cheapest size each time and sell glorified download codes? With Resident Evil 2 Capcom NEEDED a bigger cart to release it on the N64. Back then either the whole game fit or it didn't get released.

In splitting the eight-game saga into two pieces for this nostalgic collection, Capcom has (either intentionally or not) produced a pair of compilations that differ enormously. Mega Man X Legacy Collection contains the first four games and, taken together, it's a master class in mid-90s action-platformer design. If you play those blockbusters of yesteryear back to back, you get a sense of how the entire industry progressed over those four years, as the pixel art and music gets bigger and better and narrative becomes ever more important.

The other three games are better, and while as a whole there is some interesting historical insight to be gained (these four games are much harder to come by than the initial four), I'd suggest this collection is of little value to anyone who doesn't already really love Mega Man.

X6 released almost immediately after X5, and is so similar that today it would probably just be additional downloadable content. Though X5 was originally designed to be the final entry in the series, and as much is clear from its endings, X6 is quick to undo those dramatic conclusions and return to something of a status quo. It's more of the same in most regards, although with some interesting diversions such as the upgrade system, which sees robots hidden in the stages either giving you new gear or becoming powerful enemies depending on whether you rescue them before they're infected by an evil virus. The game also features full Japanese voice acting with English subtitles, something I wish could have been applied to all the games.

As with part one of the collection, there's some nice ephemera surrounding the games, including a gallery of production images and photos of old merch. There's also the X-Challenge filled with fun twists on the games' boss fights, and for newcomers there's the ability to play any game in the much less difficult "rookie hunter" mode.

If you ignore X7 then this is a decent bunch of nostalgic games for a pretty good price, but it isn't the incredible value the first part of the collection offers. Though I'm glad it exists purely from a historical interest point of view, these aren't the best X games or the best early-to-mid-2000s action games, and the commendable packaging and cleaning up here can't change that.
